A 19-year-old Devonshire man has become the Island's latest shooting victim as he was struck in the arm earlier this afternoon near Cable Hill in Devonshire.
While details are sketchy at this time, Today In Bermuda has learned that the man lives in the area, although it is not clear whether he was shot near his home.
We have placed a query with the Bermuda Police Service and are awaiting a confirmation on the incident, which has been reported several times to our newsroom.
[UPDATE]: Acting Police Community and Media Relations Manager Robin Simmons gave the following press statement: "Around 1.20 p.m. today, police officers responded to a report of a shooting in the Cable Hill, Devonshire area. Details are limited at this time.
"However, it appears that a 19-year-old Devonshire man was shot and injured. Initial information suggests that he was taken to the hospital for treatment of an arm injury, which is not believed to be life threatening.
"Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone that may have seen any suspicious activity, individuals or vehicles in the North Shore Road, Cable Hill Devonshire area around 1.20 p.m. to contact the main police telephone number 295-0011 or the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline 800-8477."
